Anzac day dawned sunny and bright this year and we were at South Steyne Surflub to run the sound for the beach ceremony, with an audience of around 400 people.

Speakers were placed on the sand facing the walkway in some very hot and testing conditions, the boxes were red hot before they were switched on which was a slight concern!

The key speakers told of the bravery of the men from Manly who rowed the boats ashore at Gallipoli.

Some of the first Soldiers into the fray and many lost their lives in the process, a great tradition of remembrance.

We used wired mics for this and kept it basic to avoid the confusion of mic signals etc.. and wanted to keep the sand out. cables were run in the sand and the crowd could hear clearly. 

Harbord Hilton 2 UP

This event is always a challenge due to the numbers of people who flock to the venue for the traditional 2UP day. Well over 1000 people were enjoying the atmosphere, we place 4 QSC K 10's around the site, with 2 Wireless mics and music throughout.

We chose the K10's because of their size and dispersion of 90 degrees ensuring the caller was heard but not deafening.

On return we were treated to a sight of people going crazy and beer soaked cables. it was a huge success and we will be back next year!

Elanora Golf Club wedding

This a great venue with huge outdoor spaces and large rooms for a hi end wedding.

we had a duo in the marquee and Dj rig in the ballroom all needing great sound.

Poco Uno employed to sort the sound out on this extravagant wedding day.

It looked and sounded very impressive when all done!

This month at Northern Beaches PA Hire has been busy with a wide variety of events

November is always a busy time to get married and there is no place better than the Northern beaches of Sydney.

Our two favorite venues  The Boathouse and Long Reef Golf Club have kept us busy with varied weddings and functions.

We have also discovered a new gem Milestone events at Manly, this family run business has secured the Sargent's Mess at North Head. this venue is set in the ground of the old army barracks and is a great place for a wedding as you can be in a private place and you can be as noisy as you like!!

There is also a bus to take everyone home at the end.

A Walk for Brain Cancer 2015 Manly

For the 4th year we organised the sound system at this event at Shelley beach 4 powerful   QSC k series speakers sent the message and the music to warm up the crowd at this worthwhile event  

CELEBRITIES  including rugby league great Brad Fittler, Miss Universe Australia Monika Radulovic and a few Manly Sea Eagles will be joining a huge charity walk starting at Shelly Beach on Sunday.

They will all be supporting the Walk4BrainCancer, which aims to raise $150,000 for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.

Clontarf’s Bec Lucas, 23, started the event five years ago in honour of her father, Tony, who had just died from the terrible disease.

“Dad very much believed in the work of the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation and channelled a lot of his energy into raising funds and awareness,” she said.

“I wanted to continue his legacy and also make a difference, so that other families don’t have to go through what (our family) did.

“The first year, we hoped to get 200 walkers and raise $20,000, but we got 800 walkers and raised $80,000.”

A busy Weekend with Northern Beaches PA Hire

Summer has arrived and we are feeling the heat in the sunny northern beaches of Sydney. The warm weather means weddings and outdoor events are kicking in as the longer days and warm evenings are more agreeable than winter evenings.

The Pacific Club in Palm Beach 

A great spot for a wedding with a great 50's style Colonial fit out it surprised us with its laid back style but efficient staff and wonderful views.

   
We organised a Roland BA 55 battery powered system to play music and allow the 50 or so guests to hear the celebrant and the couple exchange vows. High wind was a problem so a dense pop filter was slipped over the microphone to calm the noise from the wind.

We also setup powered speakers with Ipod inputs at the Pacific Club for the reception in a courtyard to allow the reveling to keep on till late into the night.

Palm Beach is a great wedding destination if you are thinking of getting married there take into account the travel time and parking as it can be tricky on a weekend!

    Surfaid Sumba fund raiser at Bill Buckle's private home

Surfaid is a great organisation and is making changes around the world with its clean drinking water initiatives and other projects.

Surfaid Sumba was raising awareness and money to improve the drinking water in the the surfing mecca.

We provided a projector and screen along with microphone and speakers to show a short video and allow the speakers to be heard in this wonderful beach side setting. The main priority for the event was simplicity and fail safe performance on the night  so we tested all the kit before the event and checked it all again insitu 

The event was a great success and the profile of Surfaid Sumba was raised locally.

Halloween and Northern Beaches PA Hire    

We were running flat out all weekend to various Halloween   parties and bands playing at house parties and small venues, what i noticed is the problems of feedback through the mics in a lounge room with wooden floors and no damping from any surface was a bit tricky with a room full of demons and monsters!

Behringer B112w update from the hire dept

We have hired 14 of the workhorse Behringer B112w's  for 2 years now out every weekend and are very impressed with how they have survived the general abuse they have received.

These speakers come back covered in sand, beer, spirits and wet through to a point where i'm slightly reluctant to turn them on!

So far we have had one tweeter blow which is impressive, the cases look god still and the bluetooth function works perfectly , if you are after a decent cheap speaker that will last then you cant go far wrong with these

If you are planning to get married this Summer or Autumn then start by making a list of all the things you will need, somewhere at the bottom or scribbled in the side will be "audio" quite often with a question mark.

Summer 2014 has been a busy few months for us we have been road testing the new Behringer range of Bluetooth speaker systems with digital GSM band mics and running the QSC K Series speakers almost every day at a variety of different applications.

So far from 12 pairs of Behringer B112WS  we have had no faults or problems using them in a broad range of situations from deep house parties to conferences with ROCHE International.

I am constantly surprised that  these speakers come back each week working perfectly after being driven hard by customers, compared to the Wharfedale 12D speaker which was our mainstay 2 years ago these have not had a single fault.

The Wharfedale 12D is a great sounding speaker but let down by a week tweeter and a power supply that sometimes goes dead without warning, we had 20 pairs in the hire department and i must have replaced at least 20 tweeters. Although 2 were used by a sound technician to promote Beyonce's single recorded in Newcastle with great feedback of the sound quality and range from these small powerful portable speakers

The QSC K series is a great go to speaker with a variety of inputs and a pleasing sound to the customer, i probably wish that i had gone with the Yamaha DSR and DXR range as the local supplier is not doing me any favours with this range of great quality speakers, but i'am a small fish in a big pond, we have 16 speakers in our inventory for summer including the K12, K110, and K Sub 

The JBL PRX 6 series are still the No 1 for dance music with a great range for 4 to the floor style sounds, i haven't hear great things about the 7 series so have avoided changing yet due to the high cost of anything to do with JBL replacement parts.

Beach  Weddings and Beach Walks summer is here on the Beaches 

We have had a great start to Summer hear at Northern Beaches PA Hire with some great weather for our out door season. Some new equipment has arrived and the phone has been ringing off the hook with people wanting our great sounding speakers and personal service

A Beach walk for Brain Cancer was again a huge success with nearly 2000 walkers involved raising $130,000 for Brain Cancer. Bec Lucas was blessed with the weather for the third year, with Mike Baird and Grant Goldman setting off the walkers.

 We used to QSC K12 speakers either side of the stage with a simple wired mic set up. The sand is your enemy in this type of environment so simple is good . It all went off without a hitch and we are back on for next year!

Outdoor weddings with Portable Speakers on the Northern Beaches

We had a great start to summer with a wedding at Dunes in Palm Beach a great couple from Manly who really enjoyed the day. Out on the grass in strong wind it was going to be a challenge so a variety of kit was loaded into the van.

2 x Roland Ba 55's linked with wireless handheld mic and Sennheiser  Lapel all running off batteries in strong wind!

Also music from a phone just to add extra complication that had to be controlled throughout the wedding. 

The Lapel was suffering from wind noise even with a sock so it was dropped and a second Roland handheld mic was used, these mics did not pick up the wind to any audible level which i was surprised and pretty happy with.

The minister had to tape his notes to the Lecturn which blew over twice!

The sound out front was balanced between the two units and the couple and guests had no idea that the wind was a factor and the Roland BA 55's worked flawlessly.

Weddings at Collaroy beach and a Warehouse party with Sydney's Fashion elite Northern Beaches PA style

Outdoor Weddings Northern Beaches sound equipment hire

A busy and wet weekend for everyone, but we managed to dodge the rain for an awesome outdoor wedding on Collaroy beach.
Three vocals and two guitars coupled with 2 Roland BA 55s sounded great even though conditions were tough.
That evening it was a warehouse party in Botany bay with the QSC rig coming into its own helping the A list of the Fashion and TV world boogie the night away ( no pictures allowed on this one ) im afraid.

The sound cut through even with the wind howling as the clouds departed and the sun shone briefly, everybody was in great spirits.
